Look up in the sky waves, it’s a battery, it’s a casing no it’s the new Agora android blue prints to the rescue. With only one Android phone on the American market and the likeliness that it will stay that way for a while, Kogan has decided to fulfill a long forgotten promise and deliver the next and newest in android phones. The Kogan Agora Pro had already popped up in Australia as the latest Android handset. The phone featured a 2.5-inch resistive touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, 3G and GPS. It also featured a 624 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, wi-fi, 2 MP camera and 400 minutes of talk time. However as there were some spec issues in the Google OS that Google was not willing to give the time of day to Kogan stepped in.
Kogan met with Google earlier this month, and clearly emerged with an inside look at the direction this platform is going. The Agora would have had QVGA touchscreen, and Kogan’s comments make it clear that devices with higher resolution displays are coming soon.

Good news and bad news. Good or really good news, is that Fringe the Israeli mobile communication company has updated it ever so popular application. The new release allows for last.fm streaming and friend monitoring. Now you can listen to your favorite radio stations while chatting with our friends without ever leaving the fringe application. All your most loved radio stations will be available and the love/ban function is also supported. Now enough of the good news, the bad news is that err… well iPhone users will not be able to use this application yet. But it may work on a jail broken iPhone. Chances are that Fringe will develop the add-on itself as the iPhone needs it badly.

Some people might love the smell of money, daffodils or coffee in the morning, but at Apple, it’s the smell of Patents that gives them a good day’s start. According to the US Patent Office Apple was awarded patent number 7,479,949 on January 20, 2009. The patent which was filed on April 11, 2008 covers multi-touch and all associated gestures such as pinch, swipe and rotation. And perhaps a judo chop or two. Steve Jobs and Scott Forstall are just some of the names listed in the inventors list. Was this what Cook meant at the earnings conference call when he said Apple would go to any length to protect its intellectual property? If so this may mean some trouble for Palm, who has recently revealed a multi touch phone themselves. If nothing else this does sound like a patent war and what consequences will that have for the users? One thing is for sure, the timing is bad for Palm, who have unveiled the Pre and now the question is will they go ahead with the actual sale? I guess it’s the war of the phone manufacturers.

Lets have a round of applause and a steak dinner for Apple. It just turned out its new and latest version of its OS for the iPhone and iPod. The changes will not be big enough to accompany pop-up screens and stuff but hey, its new. Apple says the update provides improved stability for the Safari Web browser and secondly, an issue was fixed where some images saved from Mail do not display correctly in the Camera Roll and it has fixed an issue that caused some Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio files to skip during playback (iPod Touch) The 2.2.1 firmware weighs around 246MB and is labeled as build 5H11. It also comes with the modem firmware version 02.30.03.the update is available at iTunes.

Is the return of the Jedi or the birth of one? Well it sure seems like something, because the new smart phones from Samsung are getting a lot of attention. ETnews reports that the phone might become available in Q2 of 2009 through Sprint Nextel and T-mobile. And rumor has it that it will run on the new Windows Mobile 6.5
The two phones are called Samsung Louve and Samsung Pivot. Samsung pivot is to showcase a QWERTY keyboard, HTML browser, aGPS, Wi-Fi, and a 5MP camera with flash. It is considered an update to the current i780 model, it will feature a 5 mega pixel camera (sweet man) and LED flash.. And the Samsung Louve will run on Windows Mobile 6.1, with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, tilting screen and 3.2 megapixel camera. It will also have a widget interface like that of the Samsung Omnia.
It is expected to make an official appearance at the MWC. Pictures and price are not yet available.
Somebody up there loves us! We know there is little life out there on Apple but we’ve found life elsewhere. Life that will give us Bluetooth on our iPhone whether Apple wants it or not. That right, it’s a new application from iSpazio. This application will enable file transfer via Bluetooth on the iPhone. Currently the application is working through the iMac and SonyEricsson, but once developed fully will be able to work for the iPhone and will be available through Cydia. The software has been developed by McDevil. This is probably great news specially when there was no chance of this coming from firmware2.0+ but they are calling this a hack so proceed with caution and don’t expect it to land on Apple apps anytime soon. It may not be a bad hack, I guess the name McDevil has inspired some new names. You can view the demo video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4sNfJuGWl0 . This app, may also work on a jailbroken iPhone

AT&T may be looking to launch its femtocell soon. Fem what? For those who don’t know Femtocells are essentially miniaturized cellular base stations that broadcast wireless signals in homes with spotty cellular signal reception and have range of about 5000 feet. Sweet. Sprint already offers femtocell and now with AT&T it may be available soon. Development was under way for a while and news of its release were abound since December but now things are in motion, and middle earth is about to change. AT&T have opened a special dedicated page for this upcoming feature at http://www.wireless.att.com/3gmicrocell/# . if you click on the learn more link you will be led to a page detailing its requirements. But here they are anyway, because I just can’t help myself.

· Enhanced coverage indoors – supports both voice and data up to 5000 square feet.
· Available unlimited minute plans – Individual or Family Plan.
· 3G handset compatible – works with any AT&T 3G Phone.
· Up to 4 simultaneous voice or data users supported.
· Device is secure – cannot be accessed by unauthorized users, easy and secure online management of device settings
· Seamless call hand-over – start calls on your 3G MicroCell and continue uninterrupted even if you leave the building.

G1 users red alert! Have you recently installed/used an app by the name of MemoryUp? Too much of a good thing guys. Ok you need memory, and your G1 has memory, so why would you try to get and app that would increase the memory? What’s that? Oh, you needed more memory. Ok. Well this app is making more memory by getting rid of your stuff. How’s that for memory? The application was developed by one Peter Liu, learn the name, and find the face! Who intended for it to increase the memory of the G1 but ended up with an application which in addition to deleting contacts and file from the G1 has also been deleting mail, yes that’s right, I’m talking about your e-mail. The one you don’t exist without. The application was immensely popular with over 50,000 hits and a high rating of above 932,
The app description reads, “MemoryUp is a handy memory optimizer tool that will keep your Android Smartphone running faster and efficiently. It is the light edition of MemoryUp Professional, which can extraordinarily increase you cell phone performance by making more memory available for both you applications and the mobile system”
Yeah, thing is that this kind of technology was already in the G1, it’s called the delete-your-old-file-and-you’ll-have-more-memory-app. I don’t know why Peter went to all that trouble. No surprise that the android forums are a buzz with warnings. Oh and check your SD card, if there’s anything left you’re lucky.

A watched pot never cooks and I guess a watched application doesn’t make a happy user either. And that is why Symbian is looking to develop its software further to make a better user experience. Although Nokia has been consistently developing its hardware to run on Symbian, yet Chris Wood thinks they need an upgrade. Although its quite efficient yet Wood thinks and perhaps correctly so, that users need to know something is happening if it doesn’t happen immediately. The man issue we’re talking about is the amount of time it takes to launch an application and be able to use it. The Symbian OS users are left to stare at a motionless display when an application is launched while Apple has come up with this great inventive technology thingy, where when the user taps an icon, the iPhone immediately zooms in to a JPEG that resembles the running application. While the handset is zooming in it is also launching the actual application in the background, the theory being that the app will be alive and ready to rock by the time the JPEG zoom animation is complete.
Now that is what I call assurance. I guess people never realized how much a nod or a pat on the back Is worth. And with Apple’s assurance that applications are running, life seems focused in this age of chaos and uncertainty. Seriously, kodoos that Symbian is looking to develop and improve its OS but I’m sure they could focus on other bugs. If only someone could hold my hand while I save this file, I would feel so much better.

Innovation is not LGs cup of tea is it? I mean if all the cell phone manufacturers had a tea party, Apple would go, “who invited the mad hatter” and Nokia would say “no, that LG”. And everyone would actually be disappointed the Mad Hatter couldn’t come. At least that is what could happen come February 22nd, the apparent and imminent date for the release of the Verizon Wireless VX9600 Versa from LG as reported by BestBuy over their inventory intake.. specs are not 100% out there but its pics are and get this, some phones have a side slide QWERTY keyboard, and some have a touch screen QWERTY keyboard, but the LG VX9600 Versa has, (drum roll please) snap-on key board. And for those of you who don’t get what this is, and understandably so, you can try and get a clue from the pics or try this video on youtube. The known features include a 240 x 480 pixels display, Bluetooth and extendable memory (up to 8GB).
