G1 Gets Tailored GPS Service From TeleNav
T-Mobile G1 owners have no doubt been anxiously waiting for some serious GPS navigation services built specifically for the Android system. Well finally all that waiting is paying out, by the end of this month, G1 users can expect GPS services from TeleNav. The application is a sure bet to be as cool and useful as it’s BlackBerry counterpart. The app features 3D turn-by-turn GPS navigation with voice guidance on top of nationwide maps and a business listing directory of over 10 million POIs. It will also provide traffic alerts, gas prices, weather forecasts and even direct access to restaurant reviews.
TeleNav is proud of itself, the company co-founder Sal Dhanani had this to say; “TeleNav has become synonymous with mobile phone GPS navigation. It is relied upon by millions of mobile customers. It was important to us that we build a great application for Android and the G1 so that customers with this phone would have a remarkable experience. The device’s large, beautiful touch screen creates an incredible navigation experience when combined with our software.”
Come February 24 and TeleNav will start off with a 30-day free trial period. If you like what you get, which you probably will, the monthly subscription is $9.99. And there is no life-time payment option. This is where TeleNav deviates from other GPS service providers like Garmin and TomTom. TeleNav needs to take into account the GPS users like to pay lifetime fees with a subscription fee for additional features since they are more practical. Now let’s wait to see what kind results the TeleNav gives on the G1.
