Microsoft’s Non-Response To iPhone-Alike Rumor

Right so we had a news piece from none other than the Wall Street Journal that said that Microsoft may be working to tweak it WinMO OS and assisting with design for a new iPhone-alike handset for Verizon. Now Redmond has gone out and officially said “Microsoft is not going into the phone hardware business.” Who said you were buddy? We said assisting with design, while the handset itself will be built by third party manufacturers. So that settles nothing, let the speculation continue, Redmond may still be working on an iPhone-alike. The full response from Microsoft (which you may interpret as you like);
Microsoft is not going into the phone hardware business. Microsoft is not building a Zune-specific phone. We’re deepening our relationships with our hardware partners in order to create even better performing phones that are competitively priced, have the features people want, that are easy-to-use and just downright lust-worthy. The upcoming availability of Windows Mobile 6.5 software will enable our OEM partners to build even more compelling devices in a wide-range of form factors for customers around the world.
