There was a lot of buzz last month that Sony Ericsson would be releasing a state of the art Walkman Phone to further enrich its Walkman Series. And now it’s settled, Sony Ericsson has announced the last cell phone for the year 2008. There were many rumors about what the cell phone may be called, RIKA and G705 Clone being among them, but the Walkman cell phone has finally been christened W705.

The sleek new walkman phone has been geared with great features. It’s an aluminum crafted slider with HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 3.2-megapixel camera and LED flash. There’s also UMTS/HSPA 900/2100 support. The form factor is signature Sony Ericsson; good news for some, boring news for others. The rather fancy touch, it would appear, comes from being trimmed in pale gold.

As far as Walkman features go, the W705 has the same Clear Bass/ Clear Stereo audio quality that was a major aspect of what made the W980 a hit. But the W705 is an improvement; it has added DLNA certified Wi-Fi, Shake Control and SenseME.

The 2.4 inch screen would have been impressive a few years ago. There’s also 4GB of built-in memory and an FM radio you can turn to when you’re bored. They’ve also thrown in Google Maps and an accelerometer, not the equivalent of Edison inventing the light bulb, but good nonetheless. It also packs Bluetooth, allowing you to stream audio out to the newly announced Home Wireless Audio System MBS-900 Bluetooth 2.1 channel speaker with integrated FM radio.  A sadder aspect is the short battery life.  

The W705 will be launched in Q1 2009 and will be launched exclusively to Orange in two colors; Luxury Silver and Passionate Red. Pricing info? Let us know if you hear anything.
