When the U.S. received the Nokia N97 before Europe, there were definite beach parties and fireworks. These were followed by mass prayers and offerings of thanks to the divine deity for this great gift of the N97 and that too before Europe. Now many are hopeful that they will continue in the good eye of God and in the shower of blessings, possibly get their hands on the Nokia N86 8MP. Out sometime in the next week, all Nokia fans literally have their fingers crossed for a concurrent release of the Nokia N86 in Europe and U.S. The N86 has already been showcased in flagship stores in London, and the release date is set for June 19th. The handsets have already started shipping worldwide so it shouldn’t be long for anyone any way.

LG Renoir Goes Pink

renoir pink LG Renoir Goes Pink

The LG K910i aka the Renoir has been a handset to crave with its 8 megapixel camera and stylish form factor. And while LG came out with a very sleek black colored version of the handset, something specific for the ladies was lacking. Till now that is. We are happy to show you LG’s Pink Renoir. Gotta say, it takes a very well designed handset to pull off pink, and the Renoir still looks good. The handset is available across the globe in its new color so I guess that settles what you’ll be doing after reading this post.

T-Mobile’s Sony Ericsson CS8 Gets The Nod From FCC

Up till now we had all been living in a time where the Samsung Memoir was the only 8 megapixel camera phone bearing handset on T-Mobile. And, well, many folks would rather not take pictures than use the Memoir to scar a perfectly good moment forever. But we are now happy to report that evolution has kicked in and Sony Ericsson will (hopefully) give us a better answer to the 8 megapixel question. The Cyber-shot branded CS8 has just passed the FCC’s glare and will be in time to capture all your summer parties. Apart from the 8.1 megapixel camera, the CS8 also comes fully loaded with GPS, Wi-Fi sans UMA, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio and the all too sparse tag-team combo of 1700/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA. And for the Sherlock fans, yeah you guessed it, this is the T-Mobile version of the C905. No confirmed release date yet, but rumors pit a June 24 debut.

LG Viewty II May Come Out In June

lg viewty ii1 LG Viewty II May Come Out In June

Word has it that the LG Viewty may be making an appearance sometime this June, the only sad part is that the appearance will be for UK only while the rest of us will simply have to do with pouting. Orange subscribers of course have reason to be extremely proud of themselves, since the Viewty packs an 8 megapixel camera with tons of video/picture options not to mention new S-Class 3D user interface, WVGA touchscreen, A-GPS, DivX, Dolby sound, 32GB expandable storage, 7.2 Mbps 3G speed and Wi-Fi. Yum.

Nokia N86 Live And Rather Disappointing At CITA

April 7th, 2009 momina No comments

n8611 Nokia N86 Live And Rather Disappointing At CITA

The much awaited and much fumbled Nokia N85 was at CITA too. Why ‘fumbled’, if you remember, back when MWC was going on, Nokia decided to unveil this 8 megapixel bombshell in some obscure show in Singapore. Then towards the end of MWC, Nokia did indeed re-unveil the N86. Go figure. Now at CITA, Nokia had N86 handsets on for display as well, but the weird part was these were all early internal builds. How can we say such a thing?

Because the phones had “NOO” written on them and then lamely covered with a black marker. Hello 10th grade! Anyway, the handset really did look rushed, just look at the non-existent finish. It’s like 8 megapixels slapped on to cheap plastic. Also, apart from the 8 megapixel camera, the N86 lacks anything very interesting. Nokia had better slap the Carl Zeiss beauty onto some better handset or it will just be wasting 8 mp after 8 mp. Try to enjoy the images, I just found them painful.

Samsung Memoir … Falls Short Of Expectations

The Samsung Memoir has been up and available for grabs on T-Mobile as of yesterday. The much anticipated 8 megapixel sensor feature phone is a decent attempt by Samsung, but not quite all there.

The Memoir features TouchWiz, which is an attempt to make the boring i-do-nothing-but-cook-widgets OS  some kind of pizzazz. The home screen tells you the time and weather (what an original concept!) Other specs include T-Mobile 3G support, touch screen with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface (but you know how we all feel about that), Xenon flash, HTML web browser, A-GPS and admittedly neat photo functions such as smile and face detection along with geo-tagging capabilities.

The only thing Samsung dared to make interesting was the photo section of the phone. You can swipe to view all your photos from whatever it was you thought was so cool to do. Oh and then you can upload pictures to Flickr and T-Mobile MyAlbum service. But the stone-age OS just ruins it. Oh then there’s a matter of price, exactly what is going through T-Mobile’s head putting the Memoir for $249.99 on a 2-year contract. I mean hello! Have they forgotten they have a BlackBerry Cure 8900 that just can’t stay on the shelves for more than an hour? Bad price point. A feature phone, no smartness anywhere and a price tag the size of a sumo wrestler, boring. Next please.

nokia n861 Nokia Makes A Press Release About 8 Megapixel N86, No Appearance At The MWC

Contrary to many sensible expectations, Nokia did not announce the much anticipated 8 megapixel camera bearing phone. Instead what Nokia went up and did was release a press document (in PDF) that gives a shady picture and not much detail about the would be awesome handset. Exactly what the hell is Nokia thinking? Read the rest of the press release to have an idea of our exasperation.

Nokia To Release An 8 Megapixel Camera Phone At MWC

skater 8mpx 225x300 Nokia To Release An 8 Megapixel Camera Phone At MWC

After Samsung and Sony Ericsson and the like made announcements to bring out 8 megapixel camera phones, it seemed Nokia was being unusually lazy by not catching up. After all, the Finnish manufacturer has a reputation for high quality camera phone images. So finally Nokia went all official and put up the image on its blog; this is a “pretty picture [taken] with a Nokia device.” And the EXIF data attached to the picture revealed that the dimensions come in at 3264 × 2448 pixels, that’s 8 megapixels to be precise. The ‘Model’ field on the EXIF sheet reads ‘Undisclosed (Carl Zeiss)’; sings that the handset is not out there but definitely at the tip of the pipeline, just waiting for someone to open the faucet. MWC seems to be a very good faucet opening, so let’s hope Nokia comes in with some real solid camera phone bling.

Did we tell you that the Samsung Memoir may well come to T-Mobile? Yeah we did! And now it’s official. The Memoir is going to be out this month. What’s so great about the Memoir? Only the cool 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, 16x digital zoom and Xenon flash. And yeah it has the Samsung TouchWiz interface too. Samsung also threw in a full virtual QWERTY keyboard plus aGPS. But the pride and glory of the Memoir is the 8 megapixel camera that they’ve coupled with an exemplary ease of uploading all the pictures you take to flikr, Photobucket, Kodak Gallery or Snapfish, all from the touch screen. Cool right? The only sad part is the absence of Wi-Fi. In any case the phone is great, just check out the pictures. And yeah, if you want to know how much Tmo loves their new toy, check this press release;

T-MobileTo Bring Samsung T929 Leica, Prepare To Meet The 8MP Camera

leica 1 300x238 T MobileTo Bring Samsung T929 Leica, Prepare To Meet The 8MP Camera

T-Mobile users of the United States have something to be happy, in fact very happy about. Rumor had been abuzz for a while that the Samsung M8800 Pixxon may be coming to T-Mobile, and the latest tidings are the phone is here and it’s been renamed the T929 Leica.

T-Mobile just recently launched the Samsung T919 Behold and just when it seemed as if the holiday treats were about to end, another awesome touch screen cell phone is on the way. The T929 Leica is one of those breathtaking devices you can’t wait to get your hands on. Samsung has basically taken an 8 megapixel camera and put a cell phone on it. The secret was uncovered on Best Buy’s website, where they have included the T929 on the list of devices compatible with the replaceable lithium ion battery the site is offering for sale.

The T929 Leica is fully dedicated to imaging and the 8 megapixel camera is equipped with autofocus, anti-shake technology, face and smile detection, a dual LED flash and nifty collection of image enhancing devices. Also the Leica has high standard video recording capability; it records 30 frames per second at a resolution of 720 x 480 pixels. There’s also the option of recording at 120 frames per second at 320 x 240 pixels. You also get the ever desirable geo-tagging facilty to make your photos more memorable.

Pretty much goes without saying, but the Leica is a 3G phone. It features Samsung’s mega hit TouchWiz interface. If you don’t remember, this is the user interface that gives the ultimate personalization experience with the help of widgets placed in a tray on the phone’s screen . on a sadder note, the Leica has no Wi-Fi, no smart dialing and there’s no stylus compartment.

1.      3.2″ 256K-color TFT LCD touch screen display of WQVGA resolution

2.      8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and lens protection
