Nokia S60 Gets Google Search By Voice

Picture 11 Nokia S60 Gets Google Search By Voice

Nokia has just taken S60 into the age of voice command, Voice Search to be exact. Google Voice Search will now be available to all S60 handsets, so you Symbian fans can now stop feeling left out, or hating the iPhone and BlackBerry crowd for simply ‘telling’ their handsets what to find. Add to this the fact that many S60 devices don’t have a full QWERTY keyboard, and you can see why manual input for search terms would cause you to lose your thumbs eventually. The U.S. market isn’t dominated by Symbian, but the rest of the world swears by it, meaning that Google has just struck oil with this one. The video shows how you’ll get your Symbian Google Voice Search action, enjoy.

App World Now On BlackBerry

app world web1 App World Now On BlackBerry

BlackBerry fans have reason to celebrate, you can now get your App World groove on, sitting comfortably at your computer. The first thing you’ll note when you get there is how awesome the App world is on your computer and how lame the on-device experience feels in comparison. RIM’s newly launched Web-based version of its App World offering allows users to browse the catalog in its entirety from any desktop browser (or even a decent mobile browser). That’s all very nice and all, but really to think that RIM’s been holding back on us with the on-device portal is heartbreaking. At present if your browsing from your computer and you find an app you like, you email the link to your ‘Berry, thereby giving new meaning to the word ‘corny’. How about coming to the present times and letting us mark an app on the website and have it saved so as to appear on our page when we open the store on our ‘Berry huh? That would be modern. So who else has check the new App World out? What do you think?

pre open table Palm App Catalog To Get Fresh Life; New Apps Coming

Finally the App Catalog sees the face of new apps, and very popular ones at that. Most notable of these, one that many Pre users had undoubtedly been waiting for is the Open Tables reservations app. the Open Table service, it allows you to find restaurants in your area and reserve a table at a time of your choice all from within the app. You can even invite attendees with Open Table’s Pre app and it will add the reservation details to your calendar for you. What’s sweeter is that the app is free, Open Tables makes its profits from deals with restaurants, and it’s available in the App Catalog immediately. Other interesting new additions include; Fliq Bookmarks by Mark/Space, a bookmark sync utility that works alongside The Missing Sync to sync your Pre bookmarks with Safari. Now let’s hope the App Catalog keeps getting better at a faster pace.

Nokia N86 Turns Out To Have A Pretty Smart Kickstand

nokia n861 Nokia N86 Turns Out To Have A Pretty Smart Kickstand

While the Nokia N86 is not the most bodacious device on the block, apart from putting an 8 MP camera on it, Nokia left the set with pretty much the usual N-series stuff. The N86 gets a nod of approval, yes, but nothing more. Until now that is. Seems like everybody’s favorite Symbian Guru has discovered some interesting stuff about the N86. On a close inspection of the N86 simulator, they discovered that the handset’s kickstand is more than just a tiny swiveling piece of plastic. There seems to be a little sensor somewhere beneath the kickstand allows the N86 to open an application each time it’s flipped open. How cool is that! Also, it seems that any app on the phone can be set to be the kickstand-triggered app. Sweet! A few more tricks like this, and we may give the N86 the ‘N-Series of the year’ award. (We’re generous like that)
