Well looks like either RIM or DoCoMo got too ambitious when it came to quad-band 3G BlackBerry  Bold. Over 4000 Bolds have been sold since the February 20th launch. But DoCoMo has received 30 complaints of the QWERTY keyboard overheating while the Berry was  being charged, and that’s when it decided it would be better to pull the quad-band 3G BlackBerry Bold from the shelves, at least till the matter was resolved. RIM is investigating the matter but won’t say a word beyond; “This issue appears to be specifically limited to the BlackBerry Bold devices sold in Japan since last week and sales of BlackBerry Bold devices in other countries are unaffected by this matter.” RIM also clarified that this is not the result of faulty batteries. This would take the number of carriers to pull the Bold to two.

blackberry bold oem 177x300 Japan Gets Quad Band 3G BlackBerry Bold

Guess what the Japanese are getting? A quad-band 3G Blackberry Bold! That’s right, while T-Mobile users in the United States and Europe wait for the 3G BlackBerry Bold, DoCoMo in Japan has done the Berryishly unthinkable. So what does having a quad-band 3G BlackBerry Bold mean? Only 2100, 1900, 850 and 800 MHz bands of UMTS/HSDPA. And just in case you’re wondering what the 800 MHz band of UMTS/HSDPA is; it’s a part of DoCoMo’s FOMA Plus Area network which is used in rural areas where the low-frequency spectrum is better able to navigate long distances and mountainous terrain. T-Mobileres green with envy yet?
