Good news for all BlackBerry Users, that awesome new BlackBerry Messenger Client is now available for ALL BlackBerry devices that have OS 5.0 running. Yay! The guys at BGR got their hands on a version of the client on the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and spilled the beans. The BlackBerry Messenger Client is packed with powerful features (also fun features) like avatar support, GPS integration (including proximity sensing), the ability to set and group conversations by subject and a way to create a homescreen icon for messenger contracts, and now it seems like RIM upped its game with some more goodness. Just take a look at these images, they speak for themselves. As for specific functional improvements, here’s what you’ve got;
- 1. SMS support: Say hello to threaded SMS.
- 2. PIN barcode scanning: this is for all you folks too lazy busy to add your friend to Messenger by entering in their PIN. Just have your friends click the Barcode option on their devices and a barcode will show up letting the other party scan it with their BlackBerry camera and immediately add that contact to your list. Simple right?
- 3. Backup/Restore Messenger list to microSD card: speaks for itself.

Looks like AT&T just got spied on; the guys over at Engadget Mobile have just uncovered a slide deck that shows just about every smartphone headed to AT&T this year. Some of the dates mentioned on the slides might seem off balance, but the lineup looks solid. Windows Mobile devices include the HTC Fortress (Touch Pro2), HTC Warhawk (Touch Diamond2) and the HP iPAQ K3, all of which will run Windows Mobile 6.5. As for your helping of BlackBerry, there is the Onyx, the Magnum, the Gemini and the non-flip Pearl 3G. Rumors are also abound that AT&T will get the Palm EOS in 2H this year. Finally for Android, the HTC Lancaster, a QWERTY handset that makes the G1 look like it was made from paper.

While Verizon Wireless users can do nothing beyond wait for Big Red to release an OTA firmware upgrade to cure their ailing BlackBerry Storm 9530, it seems that Canadian carrier Bell has gone released version 4.7.0.113 for its users. Verizon users can get the upgrade too, but you do this at your own risk, risk as in it might invalidate your warranty. Also there’s a leaked OS build, version 4.7.0.131, for the BlackBerry Storm 9500. This is an official OS upgrade hence not for the faint of heart. Those who have used it say that the color wash out problem is still there but the accelerometer is now faster and more sensitive. Looks U.S. Storm users have a many a moon to bear before they can use that QWERTY of theirs in portrait mode.

How would you like to have a BlackBerry OS that is badass both reception wise as well as performance wise? Yeah, you’d like that wouldn’t you. But is it possible? Yup. The guys over at BGR got a tipster that is simpler than pie when making your very own BlackBerry OS. Here are the simple yet powerful instructions;
1. Download the OS that gave your BlackBerry the best reception and the OS that made your BlackBerry work best sans reception and install them both
2. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files and open up the folder for the OS build that has the best reception and copy the lone file inside its GSM/UMTS/CDMA folder
3. Copy the lone radio file into the GSM/UMTS/CDMA folder of the OS build with the best functionality
4. Update your device with the custom OS via Loader.exe
Once the Loader.exe is done, you’re ready to unleash yourself onto the world. Take that RIM. Fear those many beta builds of the BlackBerry OS no more.
