snap65 bluetooth sig Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrade For CDMA HTC Snap/Ozone

Good news for all you HTC Snap or HTC Ozone owners, you may well be looking at an official upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 in the near future. Sprint hosts the HTC Snap while Verizon is offering the HTC Ozone. The information about the upgrade came from documents that got published on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s website, a Windows Mobile 6.5 variant of the HTC Cedar, codename for the CDMA Snap, has received regulatory approval. Apart from the CDEA100 moniker and the WM6.5 designation, there weren’t any further details. The release of Windows Mobile 6.5 is nearing, so it’s a sane hope that HTC, along with Sprint and Verizon, will give early adopter this much deserved break.

aliph jawbone 1 Aliph Jawbone PRIME, The New Fashion Statement

From the manufacturer of the Bluetooth headset Jawbone, you now have the decidedly more fashionable Jawbone PRIME. Aliph has really put a lot of effort into making this headset the decided fashion statement of the summer. The design is so out of the ordinary you couldn’t mistake this one for any other headset even in a blackout. Jawbone PRIME comes out in two different series, one for the traditional user, and the other “EYECANDY” for the eccentric fashionistas out there. The traditional range comes in “Blah Blah Black”, “Coffee Talk” and “Going Platinum” color solutions, with black, brown and silver units meant for male customers. The EYECANDY edition comes in more vibrant colors such as (get these names) “Drop me a lime”, “Frankly scarlet”, “’Yello!” and “Lilac you mean it”.

The Jawbone PRIME series also features Noise Assassin 2.0 noise reduction technology, which accurately separates speech from ambient noise for improved fidelity. If you’re interested you can get the Jawbone PRIME on pre-order, at a price of $130, same as the original Jawbone, retail launch is due May 2, 2009.

bt Bluetooth 3.0 Has Landed

Right on schedule, we have Bluetooth 3.0. And this baby is faster than all its daddies combined, with the 802.11 radio Protocol Adaption Layer you can actually get transfer speeds up to 24 megabits per second. Not impressed? *frown. People, Bluetooth 2.0 had transfer rates at 2-3 megabits per second…I expect to see eyes bulge out of sockets in due respectful admiration! Bluetooth 3.0 also has power saving controls built in, less battery suck for all! The transfer process of putting Bluetooth 3.0 on the latest devices has already begun but it may a good year before you’ll be reading “and it has Bluetooth 3.0!” around the blogosphere. Ah well, patience is a virtue.

Get Ready To See Bluetooth 3.0 April 21st

bt Get Ready To See Bluetooth 3.0 April 21st

Major technology advancements don’t happen every day (and no, OS upgrades don’t count). But today we have cause for celebration, Bluetooth 3.0! Yay! The technology was revealed about a year and a half ago, but now the final product s among us. Bluetooth 3.0 will make use of Ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless technology to achieve transfer speeds of up to 480Mbps. You will be getting higher transfer rates through the use of 802.11 standards when heavy lifting is involved and then switching back to an older, slower standard when big transfers are completed. This will help save on power consumption as well as battery usage when low-bandwidth communication is used. Good enough! Now let’s hope OEMs slap this baby on to their handsets and give us some Bluetooth 3.0 love soon.

Bluetooth may come to iPhone

January 28th, 2009 momina No comments

apple iphone3 277x300 Bluetooth may come to iPhoneSomebody up there loves us! We know there is little life out there on Apple but we’ve found life elsewhere. Life that will give us Bluetooth on our iPhone whether Apple wants it or not. That right, it’s a new application from iSpazio. This application will enable file transfer via Bluetooth on the iPhone. Currently the application is working through the iMac and SonyEricsson, but once developed fully will be able to work for the iPhone and will be available through Cydia. The software has been developed by McDevil. This is probably great news specially when there was no chance of this coming from firmware2.0+ but they are calling this a hack so proceed with caution and don’t expect it to land on Apple apps anytime soon. It may not be a bad hack, I guess the name McDevil has inspired some new names. You can view the demo video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4sNfJuGWl0 . This app, may also work on a jailbroken iPhone

motorola rokr em35 3 266x300 Motorola Brings New Music Slider Phone EM35 ROKR

Motorola has just brought out another treat, although it did get a little sidelined with all the hype about the N97. But still, the phone that was announced last Tuesday is quite a gadget. The new phone has been christened the EM35 ROKR.

The EM35 ROKR is a slider phone built for music and features the MOTOMUSIC music player which hooks up with Motorola’s music store. Then there’s SongID the music identification application a ‘Fast Scroll’ navigation wheel, integrated stereo speakers and Bluetooth support. ROKR EM35’s robust music player comes with a full suite of dedicated keys to easily launch and control music. Whether listening through the built-in dual speakers, stereo Bluetooth wireless technology1 or 3.5mm stereo wired headphones, the EM35 should certainly rock. Users can quickly access content or search through an entire music library to find a song that suits the mood by simply moving a thumb across the FastScrollTM navigation wheel. Pressing or holding the dedicated “play” key launches shuffle mode

Another great feature is the integrated FM antenna that lets users listen to FM radio with RDS over stereo Bluetooth headsets or external speakers without having to use a wired headset. To make the talk experience better and clearer, the EM35 ROKR has CrystalTalk up and running to reduce background noise in crowded places.

Specs:

Samsung Brings Mid Range Phones to AT&T

sgh a7771 Samsung Brings Mid Range Phones to AT&T

Samsung

has certainly been bust as of lately. Maybe the fact that they are now the number one cell phone seller in the United States is making the US market all the more attractive than before. The Korean company has come out with some nice mid-range cell phone, the SGH A777 and SGH A867. The phones were announced recently by AT&T right after the FCC approved of it. Engadget brought us the news.

The SGH A777 is a slider, mid range, 3G cell phone that supports GPRS/EDGE networks as well as dual-band UMTS (850/1900MHz). Those of you who wanted a light yet effective cell phone for AT&T’s high speed networks finally have what they asked for. The phone also has Bluetooth. There’s also a nice 1.3 megapixel camera that takes pictures as well as captures videos, the camera also has autofocus. Built-in memory is a decent 50MB with additional storage support through a microSD slot.

In size, you get a petite 4.0 x 1.9 x 0.6 inches and 96 grams of Samsung to carry around. The display isn’t huge either and the resolution seems ok with 176 x 220 pixels and support for 262K colors. The li-ion battery could do with an improvement, only 3 hours of talk time and 10 days of standby life. The exact release date and pricing information is as of yet unavailable, but the cell phone probably won’t be over $100.

Now for the SGH A867, this is also a nice looking but again mid-range cell phone. Running on EDGE networks well as dual-band UMTS (850/1900MHz) and having Bluetooth is about all that has been unveiled on the cell phone so far. Probably the phone will be similar to the SGH A777 especially in the price range. It will be running on AT&T’s high speed network.

All in all, the two phones aren’t hard on the eyes, quite nice and fit the budget too. They are quite a practical choice since they support 3G and giving you email functionality as well. Let’s see when AT&T finally brings them to the fore front.

Samsung Launches Simple Cell Phones E1110 & E2510

November 11th, 2008 momina No comments

Samsung has brought out two rather simplistic cell phones for users who don’t need a lot more than talking and texting functionality. These are the E1110 and E2510.

Both the cell phones are beautifully simple, I say beautifully because despite not being smartphones and the like, they are still very stylish to look at. You can confidently pull one of these babies out of your pocket to call or text message whoever you want.

Let’s start with the E1110. This is a classic candy bar shaped cell phone, very solid durable form. It features a 128 x 128 pixel CSTN 1.3 inch display, GSM 900/1800 with Bluetooth Support, MP3 Ringtone capability, 1.5 MB of internal memory and stores up to 500 numbers in the contact book. The battery gives a nice 8 hours of talk time and 20 days of standby time.

The E2510 is nice clamshell phone with quad-band GSM, Bluetooth and USB 2.0. The internal display is a reasonable 1.9 inches with 128 x 128 pixel resolution and supports 65K colors. There’s also a FM tuner, 15MB of built in memory as well as support for storage expansion with a microSD card slot up to 2GB. There’s also a VGA camera but the phone doesn’t support 3G. The battery gives about 7 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby life.

Samsung hasn’t yet announced what the pricing will be for either of the cell phones but rest assured they probably will be a breeze. What regions will the phones launch in, no news yet.

Samsung Omnia-AT&T’s November Treat

October 22nd, 2008 momina No comments

samsungomnia 170x300 Samsung Omnia AT&Ts November Treat

The hottest news about what AT&T will be releasing in November this year is the ever gorgeous Samsung Omnia also known as the i900.

Now if you’ve been reading your cell phone news right, you’ll know that every cell phone enthusiast has been holding his or her breath in anticipation of the Omnia. This cell phone is a beauty, not to mention the classiest combo of the latest features.

Omnia, which means ‘everything’ in Latin and ‘wish’ in Arabic really does have everything you could wish for. It has a fine 3.2 inch touch screen along with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface, which is unique to the Korean company. This state of the art Smartphone has a 5 megapixel camera that comes equipped with autofocus, image stabilizer, face recognition and even Smile Shot. There’s also a MP3 player, Bluetooth, and FM radio. The Omnia runs on Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 Operating system. According to Samsung the IS is their reason for using a WQVGA resolution screen. The large than average touch screen is an attempt to make up for this deficiency.

The Omnia supports GPS as well as visual voicemail. And then the usual features of a PDA are all to look forward to, I mean there’s HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stereo. The cell comes in two different memory capacities, 8 GB or 16GB. You can also get an upgrade to the memory up to 32GB with microSDHC support. And since AT&T is releasing it, comes with support for AT&T’s array of services like AT&T Music, AT&T Video, and even AT&T Mobile TV. The finishing touch is the 12.5mm platinum body that just commands attention.

The Omnia was launched in Asia in June and Europe in July. It’s scheduled to hit the US in November. The price tag on the 16GB Omnia is set somewhere around $720 while the 8GB version will come out a little later. Of course prices could vary with a contract. Let’s see what AT&T does with this beauty.

Verizon Wireless Releasing LG’s VX5500

October 22nd, 2008 momina No comments

lg vx5500 at verizon wireless 2 300x300 Verizon Wireless Releasing LG’s VX5500

It’s been a while since the buzz about Verizon Wireless releasing LG’s VX5500. Reports are now coming from all around that the cell phone is all set to be on the shelves towards the end of October or the beginning of November.

The VX5500 is a clamshell cell phone which is the successor to the VX5400. The VX5400 is at present available for free with a two year contract. In any case, the phone is designed to meet basic, I mean really basic, cell phone needs. The design is something they’ve paid extra attention to, so no matter what’s inside the phone, you won’t be embarrassed by the exterior. If you’re one of those people who like to have a separate digital camera, mp3 player, iPod, etc, and just use your cell phone for the more basic functions like taking calls or sending text messages, then the LG VX5500 gives you an easy solution.

Now let’s get down to specs, the LG VX5500 brings users a 1.76-inch TFT internal display (176 x 220 pixels, 262K colors) and a 1.04-inch TFT external display (96 x 64 pixels, 65K colors), so that all those snapshots taken with your VGA camera can conveniently viewed in crystal clear quality. Other features and functions are Bluetooth, Mobile Web 2.0, Instant Messaging, VZ Navigator capabilities, voice commands and speakerphone. There’s also a VGA camera that lets you take snapshots at will. The battery Promises 300 minutes of talk-time and 440 hours of stand-by time. The exact dimensions of the LG VX5500 are of 3.56 x 1.84 x 0.73 in. Not bad for a simple phone.

Getting to pricing, you’ve probably guessed that a phone as basic as this won’t be costing you a fortune. The LG VX5500 is going to sell for a nice $50 with a two year contract and a mail-in rebate. The mail in rebate is of $50 too.
