As per the latest article from Digitimes,there will be a little bit of a delay in the shipping of smartphones from the China-based company Compal to Palm. The reason cited is;
Shipments of Palm’s two smartphones will be delayed as Compal is waiting for Qualcomm’s new chipset solutions that will enable better performance, said the paper.
Now many Pre lovers are in tears, assuming that one of the two smartphones is the Palm Pre. Not so folks, for starters, the smartphones ordered by Palm to Compal are Windows Mobile phones and don’t feature the Web-OS platform. Also, the Palm Pre will be assembled by Chi Mei, small Taiwan-based manufacturer known for assembling Motorola handsets, not Compal. The Palm Pre won’t be running on a Qualcomm processor either, it will feature a Ti OMAP processor. So that ends the whole ‘Palm delay’ extravaganza. Happy everybody?

Remember a while ago you heard there was a rather unusual looking hybrid phone making appearances across the blogosphere, and everyone was guessing it was a Palm Roteo, well turns out it isn’t.
The guys at blog Times in Korea indentified the phone, it is the Compal Tabasco MID. The hybrid has a 4.5 to 5 inch touch screen with a swivel display. the phone made its debut as a non-functional prototype at Computex 2008. The Compal Tabasco has dual cameras; one is a front facing webcam and the other a rear 3.2 megapixel camera with 2x optical zoom and a flash. The phone also comes in with MID-sized dimensions of 160(W) x 85(H) x 33~35(D) mm, a mini touch pad and a 35 key QWERTY keyboard. And we all know the plasticy keys on that keyboard.
Now whether this phone will be finding its way into the hands of its users or whether it will be appearing as the Palm Roteo is yet to be seen. It seems unlikely that Pal will make it its Roteo, even though the company did place an order with Compal a few months ago and this seems in close proximity to the 2009 due date for the Roteo. Let’s see, but boy is this a clunky hybrid.
