When the U.S. received the Nokia N97 before Europe, there were definite beach parties and fireworks. These were followed by mass prayers and offerings of thanks to the divine deity for this great gift of the N97 and that too before Europe. Now many are hopeful that they will continue in the good eye of God and in the shower of blessings, possibly get their hands on the Nokia N86 8MP. Out sometime in the next week, all Nokia fans literally have their fingers crossed for a concurrent release of the Nokia N86 in Europe and U.S. The N86 has already been showcased in flagship stores in London, and the release date is set for June 19th. The handsets have already started shipping worldwide so it shouldn’t be long for anyone any way.

tim n97 TIM Sets Up The N97 On Its Website For A Choking € 599!

Sure the Nokia N97 is a handset to die for, the flagship device which is the first from the Finnish company to feature the S60 5th edition, but the choke factor is the price tag that somehow manages to be huge no matter where the handset pops up. As of late, the N97 has popped up on TIM’s website and the price tag is a walloping € 599! That’s roughly $800 USD…and that too from a carrier! Granted that TIM is a bit loony when it comes to pricing handsets, for example the N96 sells for €599 too. But one does wonder what on earth is the N97 cost to partners, for TIM to charge such a high price. We’d like to believe they just love to suck the money from their subscribers…but even Espansys UK has listed the unlocked N97 for £669.99 ($980 USD)…insanity!

palmpre Telefónica To Launch Palm Pre In Europe And Latin America

So while Sprint will be the exclusive carrier of the Palm Pre in the United States, what about the rest of the world? According to the Spanish newspaper, Expansion, palm Pre will be exclusively offered by Telefonica’s Movistar in Spain and many Latin American countries. As for the rest of Europe, O2 will be the exclusive carrier. O2 is also a subsidy of Telefonica. Needless to say O2 and Telefonica desperately needed a smartphone of this standing since Vodafone is cleaning shelves with the future Android-powered  HTC Magic.

Top Secret Zumba Phone To Come From UK This Christmas

zumba phone ia technology 300x188 Top Secret Zumba Phone To Come From UK This Christmas

A myriad of companies have come out with their own versions of a cell phone; computer manufacturers, television companies, watch makers, etc. Now new to the list is a UK based company that makes the technology for ejector seats, or so it comes from the towers of BBC. Of course so far the phone is “Top Secret” (hehehe) or at least that’s what the manufacturer IA Technology thought it was. The phone is thus far under the name of Zumba. They even have their very own website up with absolutely no details and some fancy shmancy concept they call ‘Natural Connecting’.

So what exactly did BBC manage to unveil? For starters, they say in their report, “It’s a secret world, much of which we can’t film,” but then go on to show how the phone is worn (they can’t show us how it works because it’s a secret). A retro slug-on-the-ear type earpiece is removed from a thin slab sporting a display and circular dialer that may remind you of Bang & Olufsen fashionphones. The device relies upon a “100% secure” connection to an “Internet portal” (something called Zumba Lumba) that holds all your contacts. If the phone is lost or stolen “it is instantly useless to anyone else.”

Here’s the video. Watch and wait to see if the Zumba really will make thepre-Christmas appearance it’s planning.

Verizon Announces Global Plans For BlackBerry Storm

November 8th, 2008 momina No comments

A while ago we were dazzled by the announcement of the world’s first touch screen BlackBerry, the BlackBerry Storm. Verizon Wireless was the carrier to bring it in the hands of users. But after the initial promotional video, there hasn’t been any further information about when the BlackBerry Storm will hit the market, what prices, what plans, etc, etc. And we were left wondering what Verizon and RIM had in mind. Well now, just recently, Verizon has announced Global Plans for the BlackBerry Storm.

Announcements are yet again pouring in from the towers of Verizon regarding their BlackBerry Storm release. The Global Plans will involve 200 destinations for voice service and 150 destinations for data service.

The 3G phone is thus aimed at the global traveller. According to Verizon, “The BlackBerry Storm allows for roaming in South America and Japan and also provides 3G data speeds on select international networks, giving customers high-speed connectivity when they’re abroad.”

Another service Verizon is offering, a rare one from the company, is a pre-installed SIM card which gives buyers of the Storm the luxury of activating global service at the time of purchase. They simply call Verizon Wireless before leaving the United States. Also, for frequent global travelers, Verizon has come up with quite an economical international roaming plan, $4.99 per month on incoming or outgoing calls for 130 countries.

In addition, there’s also GlobalEmail on the Storm that offers access to your corporate attachments. It also offers Web Browsing, Picture Messaging and Visual Voice Mail in the US as well as overseas for $69.99 per month on stand-alone data plans and $64.99 per month when paired with a voice service plan. This may seem a lot, it’s practically double what most data plans charge in the US, but when you consider the pace with which roaming charges add up in Europe, the extra money spent actually saves the frequent traveller a nice bit of cash. You can also watch the promotional video for the Storm.
