In a fresh bowl of baloney from Apple about its incredulous app approval policy. According to Cupertino, it hasn’t really rejected the Google Voice app, it is merely ‘reviewing’ it. Apple needs to review the app because it has a few ‘issues’ that need resolving, such as;
- 1. “[Google Voice] appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voicemail.”
- 2. The iPhone user’s entire Contacts database is transferred to Google’s servers, and we have yet to obtain any assurances from Google that this data will only be used in appropriate ways. These factors present several new issues and questions to us that we are still pondering at this time.”
Ahaan. And I’m the queen of America. On AT&T’s side there’s a simple leave-me-alone kind of stance, according to Big Blue, they had “no role in any decision by Apple to not accept the Google Voice application”. Lame.

The Hero is said to be bearing a full CDMA/EV-DO radio not to mention the awesome HTC Sense UI that makes Android the best to happen since electricity. If you’re a Symbian faithful then there’s one handset you know you want; the Sony Ericsson Satio. Why? Merely because it boasts of an awesome 12 megapixel beast of a camera. Even if you aren’t a Symbian 60 5th Edition fan, the handset commands respect with its specs; 3.5-inch 640 x 360 pixel 16:9 touchscreen display, 12.1 megapixel camera with auto-focus, xenon flash and 12x digital zoom, 128 MB internal memory, microSDHC support, FM radio with RDS, aGPS with turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and plenty more. According to an article by the Wall Street Journal, FCC is jumping into referee Apple’s application approval process, specifically investigating Apple’s rejection for the official Google Voice app for the iPhone. According to the WSJ, a letter was sent to Apple, AT&T and Google asking for an explanation of why the GV app was rejected by Apple. The letter also questions the reasons for removing third-party GV apps that had previously been approved by Apple. You can read the full text of the letter below, and if anything, this will hopefully take Apple off of its unbridled high horse that has given one developer too many a nightmare in return for their hard work.

While Apple is speeding up all efforts to launch the iPhone in China, Nokia is heading for a speedy win. The FCC has just okayed the Nokia 5800i XpressMusic, and the Chinese label that it bears has telepathically communicated the most likely destination of the flagship device. The 5800i XpressMusic has been spruced up a bit too, which is a good thing and will likely bring a steadier fan base to Nokia. The handset also bears WCDMA 900/2100MHz alongside quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Good to see Nokia get along in the world.

Finally we get a dose of Motorola’s first Android-powered handset; the Morrison. It’s not a show stopper, but at least it’s Android and it’s a baby step for Moto. The Morrison is a budget friendly Android phone that will be targeting the younger lot of the market, the ones who live to text. FCC has just given the handset its official blessings. Theres still no word as to when the handset will be released or what the price point will be. Now let’s wait and see what Moto has for the grownups.

Symbian or Smartphone lover or not, the guru of fabulousness in all of Nokia-Symbian-SmartPhone is here in the form of Nokia’s E71.and why are we so in love with this Phone? Perhaps it’s the figure/shape or just how well it works in all its functionality and general superb-ness. The Phone is definitely one of the slimmest QWERTY handsets out there and may only be surpassed by the E72. The NAM version of the aforementioned E72 has made it through the FCC with their blessing. The Handset features 10.2Mbps HSDPA (not available in the U.S.), an integrated compass, S60 3rd Edition FP2 and a 5 megapixel camera. Seeing as how the E72 has got its wings from the FCC Gods, it’s likely to hit stores soon and if all continues at the pace it’s going then the phone should come to AT&T around the same time Michael Jackson’s death is solved or Britney Spears regains some dignity.

Here’s another smartphone gearing up to give the Nokia E71x some competition, say hello to the LG GW600. The handset that’s slated for a launch on AT&T has just gotten the traditional blessings off of FCC. The compact QWERTY keyboard bearing handset is pretty slim and may get in the good graces of many an enterprise user, provided LG can come up with a more professional looking color option than lipstick-red. Here’s what we know about the specs;
- Windows Mobile OS
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, dual-band WCDMA
- Resistive touchscreen
- 20-key half-QWERTY keypad
- 3.1 megapixel camera
- GPS
- Bluetooth
- Video Share
- Proximity sensor, light sensor, accelerometer; flick and gesture controls
- microSD slot
Not bad at all, but no word on release date yet. Enjoy the FCC photography boys and girls.

The newest youngster to hop off FCC’s examination chair with all pieces intact is the Nokia E55. The freshly pictures Nokia E55 is a nice looking smartphone. Very slender at 9.9mm thick (or thin), of course not everyone loves a ‘compact QWERTY’, but those who do will be restless wiggling in their seats. So when does the U.S. get some E55 action? We don’t know yet, but Europeans will be able to pick one up soon for €265 (about $371 USD). Enjoy the FCC photo shoot.
