A new version of Google Maps is now available for Windows Mobile. And the new features are…there are no new features. Google has been working a few bugs out and Google Maps App has been updated to version 3.0.1. It is available for both professional and standard versions of Windows Mobile and the major bug fixed is the kinks in the latitude. Now Google will tell you the real latitude of your location. But on a serious note, the new App has been fixed to update to the latitude of your location and will run in the background to do so once it has been closed. The application will get the information from cell towers meaning it will require Wi-Fi or GPS. It will preserve battery life but at some cost of a continuous data connection.

Google Maps has a pretty huge fan base. It’s one of the most used features on cell phones, and most people use Loopt to track their friends through Google Maps. Now Google has wised up and is offering you the same luxury straight up. With Google’s new Latitude feature on Google Maps let’s you see yourself on Google Maps as well as your friends (after they accept your invitation and allow you to see their location). Google Maps for mobile with Latitude is available now for Android (it’s in the current RC33 update that’s coming), Blackberry, Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile. The Apple iPhone version will be available soon as part of the Google Mobile App.

In case you don’t have a smartphone, you can place the Google Latitude Gadget on your iGoogle homepage. If you’re using Google Gears or Google Chrome your desktop or laptop location can be tracked. Feeling high-tech yet, or just spooked by the thought of being under the ‘Google Eye’? In any case, impressive work, so very Google-like.

The iPhone 2.2 software update is now here. We reported earlier that Apple would be dishing out software updates for the iPhone, which will be tweaking a lot of the not so smart problems that the legendary smartphone has. Among the updates that we had our fingers crossed for a podcast download facility as well.

The software update has hit home, for the larger part any way. The podcast download luxury is here as promised. You can download your favorite podcasts over Wi-Fi and their carriers by using the iTunes application. The new software has some good stuff for you though, like a pronounced decrease in call failures and dropped calls.

Email is now better too; the issues of downloading from emails set in timed intervals have been resolved. Apple has also claimed that it has made a much more attractive interface for the HTML email’s wide view.

Then of course there is the Google Maps Application which has been fitted with Google Street View, public transit and walking directions. You now get the ability to see the address of a dropped pin as well as share your location with friends via email.

Among other goodies, there’s enhanced sound quality for Visual Voicemail, the option to switch the autocorrect feature on/off. Also, getting to the home screen is now easier; you can press the Home button on any Home screen and you are easily taken to the first one.
