Nokia’s N79 is the smallest handset under the n-series yet. It’s all set to launch any day now. This tidy handset is under 100 grams and is full of the hottest features.
The N79 is really what the users of today need of the N95. It’s picking up where N72 and N73 left off. It is a Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 smartphone. It also has a 5 megapixel camera with twin LED flash, autofocus and Carl Zeiss optics, GPS and A-GPS support, HSDPA high-speed data, Wi-Fi, a comprehensive multimedia player, FM radio, FM transmitter and microSD expandable memory (a 4GB card is included in your standard sales package).
A lot of cameras boast of 5 megapixels but beyond that, the quality of lens is also a major factor to consider the Carl Zeiss lens means optimum quality of still photography. The video recording functionality lets you record up to 640 x 380 pixels at 30 frames per second. This tiny little device is also among the few that supports geotagging. Geotagging lets you link GPS navigation to your photographs. The N79 supports both GPS and AGPS. You also get a three month subscription to Nokia’s turn-by-turn application. The cell phone also gives you the choice of availing Nokia’s city guide packages.
The Multimedia support is another outstanding, and of course expected feature. In the N79, MP3, AAC, MPEG4 and WMV media types are supported among many others. Fm radio is also added but that’s pretty common but the N79 wins an edge by including an FM transmitter so that you can easily play back through a car audio system without worrying about cables. Country laws apply to whether you can actually make use of this blessing or not.
One small compromise that the cell phone will force you to accept the standard 2.4″ 240 x 320 pixel panel in 16 million colors instead of the larger displays which we all have come to love and expect of the n-series phones. But the screen orientation changes from portrait to landscape form with the help of built in sensors. Still looking at the other goodies this gorgeous number has to offer, the screen size is a small sacrifice. You also get 3 Xpress-on covers which are complemented with matching themes.
