nokia n86 8mp NokiaUSA Website And Flagship Stores Soon Getting N86 8MP

If you take more pictures with your cell than you text or make calls then your dreams are about to come true, that is if you live in the US where the Nokia N86 is soon to hit flagship stores and the official website. The phone is a photographer’s dream come true. It features an 8MP that’s right, count ‘em 8MP camera. The set is an S60 3rd Edition FP2 featuring an f-stop range of 2.4-4.8 and a wide-angle lens. Once you do however, you’ll find a 2.6-inch AMOLED QVGA display, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS, 8GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi and aGPS with Nokia Maps 3.0 pre-installed. But I doubt you’ll ever get over the camera which has the shutter speed of Britney Spears’ first divorce i.e. 1/1000 a second. The phone and the camera glory don’t come cheap, in fact the US will definitely be over charged. The set in Europe was tagged at €375 abroad something around $474 at the time of release in Europe but in the US will carry the heavy tag of $558. So camera bliss is not exactly cheap but the phone is fully unlocked and top notch camera S60. Who’s onboard?

n8611 Nokia N86, 8 Megapixel Monster So Close To Relase You Can Hear It Roar

When the U.S. received the Nokia N97 before Europe, there were definite beach parties and fireworks. These were followed by mass prayers and offerings of thanks to the divine deity for this great gift of the N97 and that too before Europe. Now many are hopeful that they will continue in the good eye of God and in the shower of blessings, possibly get their hands on the Nokia N86 8MP. Out sometime in the next week, all Nokia fans literally have their fingers crossed for a concurrent release of the Nokia N86 in Europe and U.S. The N86 has already been showcased in flagship stores in London, and the release date is set for June 19th. The handsets have already started shipping worldwide so it shouldn’t be long for anyone any way.

Nokia N86 Turns Out To Have A Pretty Smart Kickstand

nokia n861 Nokia N86 Turns Out To Have A Pretty Smart Kickstand

While the Nokia N86 is not the most bodacious device on the block, apart from putting an 8 MP camera on it, Nokia left the set with pretty much the usual N-series stuff. The N86 gets a nod of approval, yes, but nothing more. Until now that is. Seems like everybody’s favorite Symbian Guru has discovered some interesting stuff about the N86. On a close inspection of the N86 simulator, they discovered that the handset’s kickstand is more than just a tiny swiveling piece of plastic. There seems to be a little sensor somewhere beneath the kickstand allows the N86 to open an application each time it’s flipped open. How cool is that! Also, it seems that any app on the phone can be set to be the kickstand-triggered app. Sweet! A few more tricks like this, and we may give the N86 the ‘N-Series of the year’ award. (We’re generous like that)

Nokia N86 Live And Rather Disappointing At CITA

n8611 Nokia N86 Live And Rather Disappointing At CITA

The much awaited and much fumbled Nokia N85 was at CITA too. Why ‘fumbled’, if you remember, back when MWC was going on, Nokia decided to unveil this 8 megapixel bombshell in some obscure show in Singapore. Then towards the end of MWC, Nokia did indeed re-unveil the N86. Go figure. Now at CITA, Nokia had N86 handsets on for display as well, but the weird part was these were all early internal builds. How can we say such a thing?

Because the phones had “NOO” written on them and then lamely covered with a black marker. Hello 10th grade! Anyway, the handset really did look rushed, just look at the non-existent finish. It’s like 8 megapixels slapped on to cheap plastic. Also, apart from the 8 megapixel camera, the N86 lacks anything very interesting. Nokia had better slap the Carl Zeiss beauty onto some better handset or it will just be wasting 8 mp after 8 mp. Try to enjoy the images, I just found them painful.

Nokia ‘Relaunches’ N86 At MWC

nokia n86 8mp muntz 300x114 Nokia Relaunches N86 At MWC

Nokia, Nokia, Nokia…it seems 2009 has just decided to be unkind to Nokia. Or maybe Nokia’s New Year’s resolution was to make a spectacle of itself in as little time as possible. As we complained about Nokia NOT launching the 8 megapixel N86 at the MWC, only to find out later that the handset had already been launched in Singapore at Showcase Nokia 2009. And now, Nokia has decided to ‘re-launch’ the N86 at the MWC. That’s right folks, Tuesday, February 17, 2009; Nokia announced the N86. So…umm….why all the chaos put around such a great phone? Why was the pièce de résistance allowed to be manhandled so long before its mega release? More ranting about that later, right now, let’s take a look at the Specs of the N86;

Aside from the 8 megapixel shooter with a shutter speed of up to 1/1000 of a second, f-stop range of 2.4-4.8 and a wide-angle lens that Nokia states is equal to that of a wide-angle 35mm SLR (yeah right), the N86 8MP runs S60 3rd Edition FP2 and features a 2.6 AMOLED QVGA display, 8 GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi and aGPS with Nokia Maps 3.0 pre-installed. And those in the North American region won’t be left out, we get the N86 by way of our very own tri-band HSPA model though we can’t say for sure if it will launch around the same time as the Euro model. Battery life is bearable with a rated talk-time of 3.9 hours 3G / 6.3 hours EDGE and standby falling in at 11.5 hours 3G / 13 hours EDGE. Finally, the dimensions and the N86 8MP (I just love saying that over and over again), comes with 103.4mm x 51.4mm x 16.5mm and 149g. All in all it’s a handset with a great camera, above average specs and horrible display resolution – truly Nseries. Expect to see the N86 8MP begin shipping sometime in Q2 for €375 ($474 USD). Nokia Makes A Press Release About 8 Megapixel N86, No Appearance At The MWC

nokia n861 Nokia Makes A Press Release About 8 Megapixel N86, No Appearance At The MWC

Contrary to many sensible expectations, Nokia did not announce the much anticipated 8 megapixel camera bearing phone. Instead what Nokia went up and did was release a press document (in PDF) that gives a shady picture and not much detail about the would be awesome handset. Exactly what the hell is Nokia thinking? Read the rest of the press release to have an idea of our exasperation.
