New Generation Of Apple Handsets And Netbooks Will Bear OLED Displays

iphone 3g 300x293 New Generation Of Apple Handsets And Netbooks Will Bear OLED Displays

Things seem to be getting prettier for Apple. News from an Australian tech magazine, Smarthouse, suggests that the new contract Apple just awarded to LG will see an initial installment of OLED screens coming Apple’s way. All this OLED goodness will go on the new Apple handsets, as in the iPhone, iPod Touch and netbooks, which we keep hearing so much about. The OLED screen would really help save on battery life, especially with all the loaded, battery sucking features that the OS 3.0 just brought on the iPhone. Let’s see how Apple pulls off capacitive OLED touchscreens on the inevitable relapse of new models of the iPhone and iPod in June/July.

sonyoledwalkman 222x300 Sony Launches OLED Touchscreen Walkman

So after the iPhone got its share of competition hate love from all around, it is now the iPod Touch’s turn. Sony has just come out with its first installment of an OLED Walkman series, the X1000. Truth be told, the walkman looks pretty neat. As for specs, we are looking at;

1.      3-inch (432 x 240 pixels) OLED touchscreen display

2.      32GB storage

3.      NetFront web browser, YouTube support

4.      MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV audio / AVC, H.264, MPEG4, WMV video

5.      Integrated noise cancellation

6.      FM tuner

7.      802.11g/b WiFi

8.      33 hours of music playback, 9 hours of video playback

It doesn’t have an App Store to go (yet) but you never know, just about everybody has their own app store and those who don’t are making plans. Anyway, the X1000 will definitely cost less than the iPod Touch, though we don’t have a number for you yet, so this should be a pretty decent choice for all you music maniacs. And you gotta admit that battery life is just awesome!

Yesterday the FCC gave its blessings and approval to the Nokia N85. The ultimate mobile gaming experience is about to unleash in the US. The N85 boasts of a dual slide form factor that is gorgeous piece of eye candy and much more.

The N85 boasts of a number of amazing features and has had N-series fans sitting on the edge of their seats. The N85 is now ready to land in the US. The phone packs quite a punch, and the Finnish company is making a separate following for itself in the era of iPhone 3G. The most distinguishable feature of the N85 is the 2.6-inch 16M color OLED display instead of the usual TFT LED display. It is the biggest OLED screen to be integrated into a cell phone yet. OLED, also known as LEP (light emitting polymer), is a screen made up of small dots of organic polymers which emit light when charged with electricity. The OLED has a good number of advantages over the LED, they are generally brighter, have a better color gamut (numbers of colors that can be accurately displayed at same time), have better contrast ratio, have a better response time, have better viewing angles and use less power (which also means take lesser time to charge the cell). Also, unlike the traditional TFT LCD displays they do not require a back light.  What all this means is that you get amazing visuals and graphics while viewing multimedia or playing games.

The Nokia N85 cell phone is pre-loaded with at least 10 made-for-mobile N-Gage games. It also has a great 5 megapixel camera that lets you do just about everything legal. It’s also slimmer and has a much more compact design than the N96. Pricing is expected to be $660.
