Getting your hopes up ain’t a wise thing to do when it comes to HTC Dream or Magic from Rogers Wireless. Both these gadgets won’t be receiving an official OS update past Android 1.5, according to HTC’s website (Rogers Wireless has confirmed this as well). Android 1.6 upgrades for Rogers HTC Dream or Magic haven’t been planned as it was made only for “Google”- branded devices such as the G1. It isn’t available for the above two HTC-branded handsets that run Android 1.5, being considered a stable and reliable platform delivering an outstanding user experience. Bragging about the device, calling it an open-sourced “Revolution” and then turning down the customers is just plain sad. Did we mention that rival carriers offering Google supported devices have managed to tweak it up with some software upgrades?

Fresh images of the Motorola Calgary have hit the web. You may remember that the Calgary is Motorola’s Android treat for Verizon, something that’s a sure win with the tween crowd. The mouth-watering live shots are courtesy of a tester who’s had the Calgary for a while now, accompanying the shots are reports that the OS is amazing, smooth and responsive, as it should be. As for Hardware, the Calgary packs three touch-sensitive Android keys on the display, a pretty decent working optical joystick, a solid QWERTY keyboard, and decent phone abilities. Among the usuals is a 3 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headset jack, GPS, digital magnetometer, Wi-Fi, microSD card slot, and spring-assisted slider. All in all, the Calgary will find a place in the hearts and pockets of Verizon users. No release date has been announced yet, but Q4 is looking to be very inviting.

Motorola has come out with its much awaited Android handset, the Motorola CLIQ for T-Mobile, and Motorola DEXT for the rest of the world. Pretty much goes without saying but Motorola needed this addition to its lineup, which was getting mundane by the hour. Anyhow, the customized Android platform is what we will now call MOTOBLUR. As for specs, thankfully, there is no disappointment. We’re looking at a 5 megapixel camera with video recording, UMTS/HSDPA, Wi-Fi, QWERTY slide-out keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack and then some. Now if there is multi-touch support, we’ll be rolling in cute bunnies.

In all truthfulness, the one handset I never tire of looking at is the HTC Touch Pro2, it is simply gorgeous. Beyond the great looks, it’s a power house in its own right. AT&T subscribers have recently had the joy of knowing that the Touch Pro2 is finally coming their way and here we have an image of the Touch Pro2 with the AT&T logo. It also seems like the Touch Pro2 may be released under the name of Tilt 2. So this means the Fuze is not having any more kids? Fine with us, bring on the full touchscreen with a QWERTY!

Eldar Murtazin the Russian blogger who is the go-to guy when it comes to spilling beans on Nokia, not to mention all-round mobile guru, has just put the N900 aka Rover through its paces and then shared his views with the world. Overall Murtazin was impressed with the device. The 3.5 inch display is a resistive touchscreen and the device also sports a full QWERTY keypad (with the off-centre space key, because Nokia just can’t get enough of it). Of course the sturdy touchscreen then makes the stylus totally useless, but logic sometimes is not a factor to be considered when designing a handset. Anyway, the Maemo 5 interface is gorgeous so Nokia will probably get away with the stylus.

We now bring you a blurry picture of the not so cool Samsung u450 Intensity. The handset is headed for Verizon and will have a place on Best Buy shelves as well. Official word isn’t in yet but seeing as the u450 Intensity features dual keypads, a 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth, there won’t be lines a mile long to grab one. Oh well, this could be exciting if you’ve never held a dual keypad before. Of course we’d rather jump straight to the Omnia 2.

RadioShack, now known as The Shack, has just come out with its much awaited budget messaging phone for T-Mobile subscribers. The messaging phone was to be with The Shack from its first day and that’s exactly what happened. So what handset are we talking about here? The oh so very affordable Samsung Gravity 2 for a humble $29.99 post mail-in-rebate and a 2-year contract. The Samsung Gravity 2 features a side-sliding QWERTY along with a 2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, Bluetooth and microSDHC support. Great deal if you’re a light user but love to text your thumbs off, all you have to do is make peace with the metallic pumpkin color.

Back at the CES it was announced that a GSM version of the Palm Pre would also come out and soon. Now with the Pre out on Sprint and Bell for a while, it was a painstaking wait to see if the U.S. 3G bands would be part of the deal or not. And a recent bit of info given out by the Wi-Fi Alliance reveals that indeed U.S. 3G bands are indeed on board the new GSM version of the Palm Pre. Yay! So this means with 850/1900MHz UMTS/HSPA we may hope to see the Pre on AT&T after Sprint\s exclusivity period ends. As for Canada, probably either Rogers or TELUS may get it after Bell’s exclusivity ends. Looking good.

Now among the handsets on their way to AT&T in the next few months is the Samsung A797, and it is a handset we knew very little about. Till today that is. Seems like some Atlanta native, oblivious of the unannounced status of the handset, got an A797 but then decided to jump ship and go on over to Sprint. Part of the breaking-ties was to put the A797 up for sale on Craig’s list (for $115). And voilà! Here we have an image of the vertical slider phone and its pretty QWERTY and touchscreen (because there’s no d-pad). The A797 is a dumphone feature phone and we don’t expect it to be setting any Olympic records. Since the Craig list sale price is $115, seems a safe bet that AT&T will be pricing this with fewer digits.

And we finally have pictures of the Nokia Rover aka RX-51. This Maemo 5 powered smartphone has gotten its graduation certificate from the FCC and if all guesses be true, we may see it pop up on T-Mobile. The handset still features the Nokia right-centered space key. Something never change. In any case, the specs are cool, and if you’ve forgotten them, here’s your fresher-upper;
- 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen
- 800 x 480 pixel resolution
- 32GB internal memory
- 5.0 MP Carl Zeiss camera with dual-LED flash, auto-focus and sliding cover
- MicroSDHC support
- FM transmitter
- Quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WCDMA 900/1700/2100, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP
- GPS
- CPU: ARM cortex A8 @ 600mhz up to 1Ghz (similar to iPhone 3GS and palm pre)
But you came here for the pictures, keep scrolling along and enjoy yourself.
