Thirteen Year Old Sends 14,528 Text Messages In One Month
A few days ago, you read here about a new application that will enable parents to stop their teens from sending text messages while they drive. Just in case you’re wondering what the teen potential for sending text messages is; thirteen year old Reina Hardesty sent 14, 528 text messages during December 2008!
According to a study done by Nielsen, the average teen sends 1,742 text messages a month, that’s 468 messages a day or 1 text message every 2 minutes (ignoring time for less important things like sleeping). Her father of course had trouble believing this until AT$T parceled him a 440 page-long statement. Reina’s text messages could have cost her father a walloping $3000, but luckily she was on an unlimited plan that only cost $30 a month. Now before you all start shaking your heads at asserting the beliefs that teenagers will be teenagers, you ought to know, text messaging runs in the Hardesty family. Reina’s father admits to sending almost 900 text messages a month. That’s more than 700 over the average for his age group as per the Nielsen study. So unlimited plans have their heroes after all.
Oh yeah, Reina is no longer allowed to send text messages after dinner.
